  • Release dates :
New Zealand - December 13, 2016 (Premiere) (Auckland) (English dubbing)
New Zealand - December 22, 2016 (English dubbing)
New Zealand - September 11, 2017 (Reo Māori dubbing)
  • As native New Zealanders, Rachel House, Temuera Morrison, Jemaine Clement and Oscar Kightley reprised their roles as Gramma Tala, Chief Tui, Tamatoa and Lasalo respectively.
  • Taika Waititi, one of the Producer, originally wrote the initial screenplay of the movie, but eventually bailed. It was he, however, who asked Disney to make a Te Reo Māori dubbing of the movie.
  • The idea of of Reo Māori dubbing of the movie came when Tweedie Waititi was having dinner with Chelsea Winstanley, and her two toddlers were watching Moana on repeat : “I thought, wouldn’t this be nice if they watched this in their own language? Then we just started pulling out the chalk, scribbling on the window, dreaming up some ideas and here we are really. We touched based with Disney, gave them a call. But yeah, it start off with a few scribbles on a window, really.”
