TRIVIA

  • In 1938, an Arabic dub of Disney's first full animated film "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" was considered as Roy Disney and Stuart Buchanan stopped in Egypt during their trip across Europe and the Middle East for the foreign dubs of their movie. Eventually, it seems no deals was made.

  • When the Walt Disney Company first decided to come across the Middle East in 1975 with their classic full-length movies, they decided to dub those movies in Egypt with the Egyptian dialect, as Egypt was considered as the "Arabic Hollywood" of the Middle East.
  • However, all Mickey Mouse features were always dubbed in Modern Standard Arabic only.
  • In 2012, Disney decided to change that decision and started dubbing their movies in Modern Standard Arabic instead. "Brave" was the first Disney-Pixar film to be dubbed in that dialect that year.
  • A year later, Disney commissioned MSA dubs of their previous classics dubbed in Egyptian Arabic. Those dubs were released, censored, on JeemTV channel.
  • In 2016, with "Finding Dory", it was decided to make hybrid dubs: the script was mostly in MSA, with some lines or some characters speaking in Egyptian Arabic. This will continue until 2020 with "Frozen II".
  • A decade later, with the launch of Disney+ in MENA (Middle East North Africa), Disney went back on their decision, and to accommodate both Egyptian and MSA lovers, decided to produce two dubs for each new film: one in Egyptian Arabic and one in MSA.
