- Release dates :
France - November 28, 1990 (Cinema) (1st French dub)
France - July 1, 1998 (Cinema) (2nd French dub) - Boris Roatta, playing Flounder in the first dubbing, tragically died in 1994, hit by a reckless driver. He was 14 years-old.
- Claude Chantal dubbed Carlotta in both French dubbings.
- Vincent Grass was originally chosen to be the Musical director in the first dubbing (1990). He directed some of the songs; however, when he learned that Claire Guyot had been chosen for the role of Ariel, he was displeased as he didn't like her in the auditions. He didn't show up on the day Claire was supposed to record Ariel's songs, and she ended up recording the songs alone, with the sound engineer. After that, Claude Lombard, who was originally chosen to direct the choir, was asked to step in and finish directing the missing songs.
Sources : Rémi, Dans L'Ombre des Studios & Claire Guyot - Micheline Dax, who was used to sing in head voice, told she had a lot of difficulties to work on and sing Ursula's song, which is sung in a low tone. This is why she refused to sing the song again in 1998, and therefore the 1990 version of the song "Poor Unfortunate Souls" was kept in the 1998 dubbing.
- In the 1998 version, Miguel Ángel Jenner, the voice of Chef Louis, is a Spanish voice actor and singer. He also dubbed Louis in the Castilian Spanish version of the movie, made the same year.
- Given the notoriety of Henri Salvador, the voice of Sebastian in the first dubbing, Disney decided to restore the first dubbing from the 2006 DVD and onwards. Therefore, the second dubbing was only released on the 1998 VHS and 2000 DVD. They've also made Henri Salvador redub the parts of Sebastian in The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea (2000), originally dubbed by Christophe Peyroux.
